Due to my excitement about Queen Elizabeths diamond jubilee, I completely forgot to make a mention of Vesak. Vesak is a Buddhist festival and celebrates the birth, enlightenment and death of Siddhartha Gautama, also known as the Buddha and was celebrated on the 27th of may in Australia this year. Vesak is a beautiful celebration that I learnt much about from my partner who is a Buddhist himself and through my studies of religion class which I took during my final year of high school. It is celebrated in many different ways according to country and the different forms of Buddhism. It is a very beautiful celebration and I would love to attend many of the Vesak celebrations within Australia in the future. I urge all to learn more about the philosophy of buddhism and the celebration of Vesak. below is a link to buddhanet.net, a website dedicated to the philosophy of Buddhism.
